Our Mission

With a focus on early intervention in their careers, Hold the Reins offers equine-assisted wellness and coaching for active-duty US Navy SEALs, SWCC, & EOD. Our program highlights the role of horses as partners in fostering self-awareness, emotional regulation, communication skills, and goal achievement. We achieve this through immediate feedback, trust-building, and promoting resilience among participants.

Hold The Reins’ goal is to teach select members of the Naval Special Warfare (NSW) community a new perspective of living a purpose, overcoming, and focusing on what is controllable. These skills build the “Leader of Self” mentality in our participants which improves their personal and spiritual health and their relationships with spouses, family, and friends.

Natural Horsemanship is the root of our equine-assisted wellness with a focus on behavioral-based outcomes. Horses provide immediate and non-judgmental feedback to human behavior.  In this way, they serve as a mirror into the soul for participants to interact, communicate, and to build self-awareness. Through this process, a coach will help members work through their unique challenges to develop emotional regulation, enhance communication skills, build trust and confidence, promote goal achievement, and foster resilience and adaptability.

Upon completion of their first visit, all participants will be given a mentor who is calibrated to the HTR process. The mentor and participant work in tandem to ensure the participant’s growth in the saddle continues to growth at home.
